At Parrot Essentials, we're excited to announce an opportunity for parrot enthusiasts to showcase their feathered friends while supporting a great cause. This year, we are partnering with Busy Beaks Bird Rescue to create our 2025 Parrot Calendar. All profits from the calendar sales will be donated to Busy Beaks Bird Rescue, aiding them in their mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome birds in need.

How to Participate

From now until the end of October 2024, we are calling all parrot owners to submit their best parrot photos for a chance to be featured in our calendar. Whether your parrot is a majestic Macaw, a charming Cockatiel, or any parrot in between, we want to see them in their element!

Here's how you can get involved:

Capture Your Parrot: Take a high-quality photo of your parrot. We're looking for vibrant, clear images that capture the personality and beauty of your birds.

Submit Your Photo: You can send your photographs to [email protected] or share them on social media using the hashtag #ParrotEssentialsCalendar2025.

Selection Process: After the submission deadline, our team will select 12 of the most captivating photos. These selected entries will not only grace the pages of our 2025 calendar but also win a free Busy Beaks Box product.

Prizes and Recognition

Each of the 12 winners will have their parrot featured for one month in the calendar. This is a fantastic way to show off your beloved bird to other parrot lovers around the country and beyond. By taking part, you will help Busy Beaks Bird Rescue continue its mission of improving the lives of companion parrots in need.

Winners will also receive a FREE Busy Beaks Box Enrichment Food Meal Topper.

About Busy Beaks Bird Rescue

Busy Beaks Bird Rescue originated from the shared vision of Alexandra and Tina, who met during their rescue work. Frustrated by the recurring sight of unhappy and unhealthy birds, they often found themselves heartbroken over the birds that had passed on, taking pieces of their hearts to the rainbow bridge. Witnessing firsthand the detrimental effects of poor diets and behavioural issues stemming from a lack of proper care, they were driven by a powerful resolve to change the status quo.

Their venture, Busy Beaks Box, was born from a chance conversation that felt like destiny. With a combined passion for avian welfare, they set out to provide affordable, quality care products, training, and healthy diets for parrots, embodying their belief that "A Busy Beak is a Happy Beak." This initiative aims not just to sell products but to educate and support parrot owners, helping them to provide better lives for their feathered friends.

The journey didn't stop there; the expansion into Busy Beaks Bird Rescue marked a significant milestone, as the merger with Open Arms Parrot Rescue expanded their capabilities. Now, their mission is clearer than ever: "Rehoming a parrot in need is our top priority." By adopting a parrot from Busy Beaks Bird Rescue, supporters do more than just welcome a new family member; they participate in a larger movement towards better parrot welfare.

Understanding the Adoption Process at Busy Beaks Bird Rescue

Adopting a parrot is a rewarding experience, offering a second chance at life for birds in need. At Busy Beaks Bird Rescue, the adoption process is designed to ensure the best possible match between the parrots and their prospective families. Here's a step-by-step overview of how you can bring a feathered friend into your home:

Step 1: Initial Inquiry

Prospective adopters are encouraged to visit the www.busybeaksbox.com/ bird-for-adoption to view available birds. Each listing provides detailed information about the bird's personality, care needs, and history. If you find a parrot that you believe could be a good fit for your home, the first step is to book your home check on the website.

Step 2: Online Homecheck

This visit allows Busy Beaks Bird Rescue to ensure that your home is safe and appropriate for a parrot. It's also a great opportunity for you to ask questions and demonstrate your readiness to adopt. 

Step 3: Application

Upon successful completion of your home check, you will be encouraged to fill out a comprehensive application form to apply for your chosen bird. This form asks about your previous experience with parrots, the environment you can provide, and your understanding of parrot care. The purpose is to ensure you can meet the specific requirements for that bird. 

Step 4: Meet and Greet

Once your application is approved, you'll be invited to meet the parrot you have been accepted for. This step is crucial as it helps both you and the parrot get acquainted with each other to see if there is a mutual bond and comfort.

Step 5: Adoption Approval and Fees

Should the meet and greet be successful and both parties feel comfortable, the final adoption approval will be granted. Adoption fees vary depending on the bird and contribute towards covering the rescue's costs for medical care, food, disease testing, microchipping, Cites Applications and housing for the birds. Adoption fees are based on a tiered system which takes into account the birds' continuing needs, behaviour and much more and is displayed on the website against each bird's profile.

Step 6: Ongoing Support

Busy Beaks Bird Rescue remains committed to the lifelong well-being of their birds. They offer ongoing support and advice to new parrot owners, helping them navigate the joys and challenges of parrot care. New owners are encouraged to stay in touch. Mentorship is available where necessary at no extra cost.
